Is there a better way?

Innovation is about solving problems. It's not about invention and technology; it's about economics and creating value. We are mesmerised by new gizmos, gadgets and widgets but we lose sight of the why behind the what.

David Neeleman, CEO of JetBlue said: Innovation is trying to figure out a way to do something better than it's ever been done before.

A great innovation is elegant simplicity imbued with the power to create change that matters. You won't find elegance in grand designs or beautiful looks. You'll find elegance in the solution that solves a problem with creativity, simplicity, subtlety and quality with minimum effort and cost. Elegant solutions are obvious only in retrospect.

Companies that have truly mastered innovation know that it can be de-risked by making a number of small bets across a portfolio of ideas, rather than one big bet on a would-be killer app.
